The + sign means add or plus.
The = sign means equals or is.

Read carefully and solve:

1. Aditi has 5 pencils. Her mother gives her 3 more. How many pencils does she have now?

2. There are 7 birds on a tree. 4 more birds come and sit. How many birds are there now?

🌟 Important Properties of Addition

1. Order doesn’t matter! (Commutative Property)

3 + 5 = 8 and 5 + 3 = 8 — same answer!

2. Adding Zero gives the same number!

7 + 0 = 7 — zero doesn’t change anything!

3. Adding One gives the next number!

6 + 1 = 7 — one more than 6 is 7!
