How to Make Past Simple

Regular Verbs - Add “-ed”

Most verbs just add -ed to make them past tense:

Present	Past Simple	Example
play	played	I played soccer yesterday
walk	walked	We walked to the park
help	helped	She helped her mom cook
jump	jumped	The cat jumped on the table
wash	washed	Dad washed the car

Time Words for Past Simple

These words tell us it happened in the past:

• Yesterday - I played yesterday
• Last night - We watched TV last night
• This morning - She ate breakfast this morning
• Last week - They visited grandma last week
• Before - I finished homework before dinner

Practice Sentences

Change Present to Past:

1. Present: I brush my teeth
   Past: I brushed my teeth this morning

2. Present: She dances in class
   Past: She danced at the party yesterday

3. Present: We listen to music
   Past: We listened to songs last night

4. Present: The dog barks loudly
   Past: The dog barked at the mailman

Story Time - Past Simple

Yesterday was a fun day! I woke up early and brushed my teeth. Then I played with my sister in the garden. We laughed and jumped around. Mom cooked pancakes for breakfast. After that, we walked to the park and climbed on the playground. When we came home, I helped mom with the dishes. It was a great day!
