Two-digit column subtraction with borrowing

📖 How to Subtract
1 Look at the ones column first. Is the top number big enough?
2 If the top ones digit is smaller, borrow 1 ten — write 1 in the borrow box.
3 Borrowing adds 10 to the ones, but the tens column loses 1 (that's the −1).
4 Subtract the ones, then subtract the tens. Write each answer in its box!
Example:
42 − 18
Ones: 2 < 8, so borrow! → 12 − 8 = 4.
Tens: 4 − 1(borrowed) − 1 = 2.
Answer: 24 borrow
